Resources for Pregnant Women and New Moms in Montreal

Here is a list of local resources for Montreal moms and moms-to-be that I have put together based on my experiences as a mom and working as a doula in Montreal. All of the businesses and people that I have linked to below are people I have connected with on either a personal or professional level and I wholeheartedly recommend them.

Please note, this is not a comprehensive list of all the services available to moms in the Montreal area, rather a list of my favorite and most relevant resources. Live on the West Island? Check out my West Island new mom resources page.

Boutiques and Cafes

Melons et Clementines www.melonsetclementines.com
This wonderful shop, located at 5659 Sherbrooke West, is a haven for new moms, pregnant women and their babies under a year old. They specialize in all things related to breastfeeding. You can rent or buy a breast pump, find nursing clothes or bras, try out different baby carriers, as well as finding natural products for moms and babies. They host workshops, as well as serve great coffee and sandwiches which you can eat while you socialize with other new moms while your babies sleep, nurse, or play. A perfect destination if you need to get out of the house with baby!

Yoga and Fitness

Clearlight Gerald at Yogaspace www.yogaspace.com
Located in the heart of Westmount at the corner of Sherbrooke and Victoria, the amazing classes offered through Yogaspace are truly a staple in the maternity and new mom experience. I have personally attended their prenatal yoga during both my pregnancies and they were such a welcome calm during the sometimes very busy and intense week.
Many of my doula clients have also taken the classes at Yogaspace and have greatly benefited from the wonderful teaching of Clearlight. Highly recommended!

Kate Hudson at Ambaa Yoga www.ambaayoga.com
Kate is one of my favorite yoga teachers. She currently teaches toddler and children’s yoga at Ambaa in St Henri. The studio offers yoga for women, which is also suitable for pregnant women. Definitely a place to check out!

Moksha Yoga www.ndg.mokshayoga.ca
A wonderful yoga studio where I have taken both the hot yoga and prenatal yoga classes. Located in the Monkland village in Montreal, this beautiful studio is another great resource. They also offer classes for older children on Sundays, so that your child can attend yoga while you attend your regular hot yoga class- genius!

Jana Sedevic at Le Studio Vie www.lestudiovie.com
Jana has some amazing classes for moms who are serious about getting into (or back into) shape after giving birth. She specializes in prenatal and postnatal fitness for women in Montreal. But she’s not going to go easy on you- so be ready! Her individualized care is perfect for respecting your post-birth body. In the spring and summer some of her classes are at the park, so if you want to sweat it out in nature- check out her classes.

Photography

Tanis Saucier www.tanissaucier.com
Tanis has a special talent for working with babies and children. She can get even the silliest and most uncooperative little person to sit still for those 3 seconds to get that perfect shot. She’s had the pleasure of photographing my two boys and the photos she took are some of my favorites. She’s experienced with maternity photos and families, but her real love is working as a newborn photographer in Montreal. Her new studio will be a perfect place to take your new babies to get those unforgettable shots.

Aglow Photography by Shoshana Ruttner www.aglowphotography.ca
Shoshana has been taking photos of families in the Montreal area for years! She’s a pleasure to work with and shoots on location or in her studio in Cote St Luc. She does beautiful work- check out her portfolio to see shots of her maternity photos, newborn photos and stunning family photos.

Michelle Little www.roasted.com
If you’re looking for something a little different than the usual posed photos, then Michelle might be perfect for you. She takes a more casual, on-location approach and likes to capture newborns and families “as they are”. Her images comes across as fresh and candid and she has a really unique way of finding what makes your family shine.
She also writes a great lifestyle, fashion, food and Montreal-centric blog, which you can find at the same web address.

Breastfeeding

Nourri Source www.nourri-source.org
Nourri-Source is a Quebec based non-profit organization meant for supporting mothers and their breastfeeding goals. They host meetings at local CLSCs and a huge part of their successful program is the “marraine” or breastfeeding support mom-to-mom program that pairs up an experienced breastfeeding mom with a new mom. I have volunteered with Nourri Source as a “marraine” and it is such a rewarding and helpful program.

Holistic Health Resources

Acupuncture and Massage with Sylvie Berard www.sylvieberard.com
Sylvie is a trained acupuncturist and massage therapist with years of experience working with women during pregnancy and after birth. She can treat a variety of issues and discomforts. She’s also conveniently located in the same building as Moksha Yoga in NDG.

Chiropratic Care with Dr. Jason Skolar www.drskolarchiro.com
Dr. Skolar is a trained chiropractor who works with women, children and athletes. He is trained in the Webster technique which can help with pregnancy issues, such as breech babies. He is passionate about his work and is very skilled.

MICH- Montreal Institute of Classical Homeopathy www.michmontreal.com
So, I’m still not sure exactly how to explain homeopathy or how it works, but I have used it so successfully in my life that I am a believer! It’s been amazing to gently treat issues with my family’s health through homeopathy. I’ve also been followed directly by the homeopaths through MICH and it’s been a great experience. I highly recommend looking into homeopathy, it can be very beneficial during the childbearing year and beyond.

Playgroups and Preschools

Curzon Preschool www.curzonpreschool.com
My children have been attending Curzon Preschool for the last 4 years and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a play-based, caring environment for your 2-5 year old. The teachers are amazing, and the parent involvement makes it truly unique. It’s a co-op school, with many added activities such as skating, swimming, yoga, music and a bilingual curriculum. Located in Montreal West, I send all the local Montreal moms to Curzon.

Belles Mamans www.bellesmamans.ca
Looking for something to do with your 0-12 month old or your toddler under 2.5 years old? Belles Mamans hosts child development groups and playgroups where you can join other parents to hang out in a relaxed atmosphere with your baby. Classes are guided by early childhood educators and are a fun, educational way for you to get out of the house with your baby. Located at Ateliers Turcotte at 6111 Monkland in NDG.
