“You’re going to cloth diaper? Isn’t that going to be so time consuming? Don’t you have to soak poopy diapers in water and have your whole house smell like urine? Doesn’t it use up so much water and you’ll spend all your days washing diapers instead of taking care of your baby? Isn’t cloth diapering something we don’t have to do anymore? Why would you want to use cloth diapers?!?!”
I have both said these things about cloth diapers and had them said to me.
About 13 years ago, when I was childless and totally clueless about all things baby, my sister was expecting her first. She planned to cloth diaper. We all poo-pooed the idea and told her she was nuts. In the end, she chose not to continue with cloth diapers, probably because we all made fun of her and came up with every reason in the book as to why it was the WORST idea ever.
Fast forward to 6 years ago and I, pregnant with MY first, decided that I was going to cloth diaper. Cue the negative comments from friends and family and the eye rolls from people I spoke to about it. It seemed like only a few people I knew cloth diapered. But, I was drawn to it and so, like with many things relating to baby gear, I fell down the rabbit hole of cloth diapering.
The reasons people give for cloth diapering are always different. Eco-friendly and cost-effective are usually high up on the list.
My husband’s reason: He didn’t like the chemicals in disposable diapers and preferred something more natural on our baby’s bum.
My reason: they were cute and came in really awesome colours.
So, I spent a TON of time researching all the different kinds and checking out the different styles and finally settled on a style and brand that I liked. They were called AppleCheeks and at the time they were a relatively new brand on the market. They had great colours, a cute design and best of all, they were a local company.
I ordered an entire stash of size 1 covers in every colour. I carefully washed and folded them and then waited for my baby to arrive so he could poop and pee in them. Crazy, right?
Not at all! My son fit perfectly into them right away since he was a bigger baby, so we used them from our first day home. He never had a diaper rash, they were so easy to stuff, and since he was breastfed I just tossed them directly into the wash and let my washing machine do the rest.
As time went on, I won’t lie- we occasionally used disposable diapers here and there. Like with anything in life, it’s never a black and white choice. But, we always preferred our cloth diapers and used them again when our second arrived!
So guess what? AppleCheeks and I have arranged to do a giveaway of a Size 1 Little Bundle (cover +insert) in the colour of your choice! See below for how to enter. Winner will be chosen on November 20th- good luck!
a Rafflecopter giveaway
I adore cloth diapers for ALL the reasons! Eco friendly, wallet friendly, adorable, and better for my baby’s bum!
We started with applecheeks (and were pleased to find they’re locally made) cause we used the diaper service from BabyAuric, and love them 🙂
We had the exact same experience. Despite all the apprehensive comments we gave cloth diapering a try and are loving it. I find it is no more work than going to the drug store to buy disposables.
I love the cost saving as well as I never run out. No running out in bad weather for diapers we thought we had more. Besides have you seen the prints. Fluffy buns are just so cute.
I love cloth diapers because they save money, have less chemicals in them, and have awesome colors and prints.
I wanted to cloth diaper my kids, but was always discouraged from doing so by friends and family. Now that my sister is expecting her 2nd child, they are thinking of cloth. I think it would be amazing to give her this bundle as a Christmas gift!
We are expecting our first baby girl and would love to go cloth, have a few and total want more hehe. Im all about natural products for our baby! 🙂
I’m curious – after 3 kids 😉
I love cloth diapers because they are chemical free and so much better for baby. He has never gotten a rash and I feel good about him wearing them all day. Plus they are so economical and we avoid contributing to the tons of disposable diapers thrown in landfills every year. And no late night runs to the store for more diapers either! Just throw them in the wash and you have a fresh batch for the next morning. We use Apple cheeks also and they are fantastic.
I love not having to run to the store when I run out of sposies. I love the fit, no blowouts! And yes, cute colors.
Love everything about cloth diapers. Love the prints and having a stash of prints that represents important things to me.
Environmentally friendly, economical and so cute! Plus when it’s warm enough, diapers count as pants!
I’m expecting my first end of February, and will (hopefully) do cloth diapering. Was given a set of scone hand but would love to get some new Apple Cheeks. 😉😉
I was drawn to cloth for the financial and chemical on my baby reasons, but I stayed for the cute! I even love laundering then!
I love that they are cute and better for the environment.
I wish I would have done my research on cloth! Then I would have landed on applecheeks sooner!
Woops, hit enter early. I was going to add after wahoo: I love giveaways. And I love the cute patterns of clothing diapers. And I love that it is something good for the environment. 🙂
Applecheeks are my favourite! I love the cost savings of cloth diapering and that I never have to worry about going out and buying diapers all the time. Plus they are so darn cute!
What an awesome review! I love cloth specifically becuz they don’t stink as bad(chemical free, I guess is the main reason), but I agree with you about AppleCheeks- they are easy and always fit!
I love the money we have saved by using cloth diapers!
They’re better for the environment, my son, and my wallet. It doesn’t hurt that they’re adorable too.
I am on my second cloth diapered baby and we use exclusively AppleCheeks now. I have tried virtually every mainstream brand out there and AppleCheeks are hands down the BEST!! Perfect fit, form, and function every single time.
I love that I don’t have to buy disposables all the time! And how much I’m not putting in land fills!
After much research and numerous in depth conversations with friends about cloth diapering I decided to take the plunge. I knew I wanted a system that was fun for me and had a great community to go to if I had problem. I have never once looked back and regretted cloth diapering.
Can’t wait to CD my LO when she gets here.
I would love to cloth diaper my first due in December.
We love our Applecheeks and how well they fit. Plus no blowouts!! 🙂
This will be our first due May 2 and I am so excited to try cloth diapers. My mom used them for four of us and never had complaints. I like them most for the comfort feel on babys bum, I have heard less often diaper rash, environmentally and financially friendlier. And they come in totally awesome colours!
Look forward to starting our cloth diaper collection!
They are cute, cost-effective, better for baby and the environment. And really – not that much work nowadays!
We love cloth diapers. No waste, chemicals, and love all the cute colours and prints.
We love AppleCheeks cloth diapers! I love to collect almost all the AppleCheeks! I love not having to worry about running to the store to get more because we are almost out. Just toss them in the wash!
I love how cute they are, fluffy butts are the best. I love that its fabric on the bum and not chemical crystals, and my house only smells like pee when we use disposables for whatever reason, and it only takes one or 2 to stick up the bathroom. I can have a day and a half of cloth in the pail and no smell!
We love that using cloth not only helps the environment.. it saves us money and looks way cuter than disposables!
I love that I am doing something good for the environment and my kids. And they are cute! Thanks for the chance to win!
I love that they’re reusable!
I love the look, the feel and knowing that I’m doing my bit for the environment x
i love cloth diapering. A little hesitant at first but love it.
I love how my little’s bum doesn’t get rashes like she does when she is in sposies!!!!
I like how much money we save.
I love the versatility of cloth diapers, and more specifically, applecheeks covers. I can use their inserts or even make my own, or uuse fitteds. Either way I can adjust the absorbency of the diaper depending on the situation (overnight solutions, long trip, etc.).
I love that they save money! It’s a bonus that they are so cute!
I loved that cloth diapers have helped out family save money!
I love that they are a more eco friendly option than disposables and that there are so many different styles/options that everyone can find a system that works for them.
I love everything about cloth diapers. They are so cute, easy to use or more eco-friendly – what more could you want from diaper!
I love our Applecheeks. I have a 1 yo who has been exclusively cloth diapered using Applecheeks since she was 2 weeks old. We’re now expecting our second in April, and now that I feel more confident with cloth diapering in general, I’m planning to use Applecheeks on this future baby from day 1. I can’t planning. I’ve never used another brand, but from my experience and from what I hear, Applecheeks are definitely the best!
What I can’t help but wonder, and feel a little jealous of, is that you were with Applecheeks when they started…so you have/had all those super HTF colours. I’m so jealous of that! I’d love to find and be able to afford a Samoa!
Thanks for the giveaway!
I love cloth diapering for many reasons! Eco-friendly, easy on the wallet, cute & soft, better for my baby…all of the above basically!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE cloth diapering!! It’s good for the planet, good for the pocket, and good for the bum. Not to mention cloth diapers are so adorable. It’s addictive really. and I love Applecheeks diapers for all the same reasons you mentioned.
I love saving money & not smelling that AWFUL disposable smell! (Helps that they are super cute too!) lol
I love Applecheeks! I love everything about them!
I use ACs exclusively and love them!
Thanks for doing the giveaway!
This would be amazing to win. We love cloth diapering but just can not afford to buy.
I love them because they are easy and efficient!
I love that they don’t have any chemicals or fragrances, unlike disposables!
We love using cloth diapers. I have never tried applecheeks but love this prints.
In all honesty, I cloth diaper because I love how cute they are. I also like how I am not always adding a box of diapers to my cart every time I go shopping.
I love not throwing them away!
We decided to cloth diaper the day baby was due. We loved how eco friendly it was and all the cute colours! Despite pretty much 99% of people telling us it isn’t actually eco-friendly and way more expensive than disposables, we did our own research and decided to use cloth!
Love cloth diapering! Would love to try Applecheeks!
I am new to cloth diapers. This is my 3 baby in diapers but my first in cloth. We have been trying to make better choices. I feel good about it and applecheeks are so cute. I am glad we made this decision. It is better for the environment and babies bum. 😀
I love cloth because of convenience! I don’t have to worry about running out and having to get me and my boys dressed, load them in the car, drive to the store and hope they have the size/brand I need (skin sensitivities) while quieting any tantrums that may happen, pack them back into the car, drive home and try to get them and the sposies back in the house at the same time without having to chase one (or both) kiddo down. That is way more work than washing a load of diapers. Cloth diapers are great on your wallet, the environment, your time and sanity! Not to mention they come in the most adorable colors and prints!!!
I love cloth diapers for the cost savings, cuteness and natural aspect.
I love that you can wash them over and over again.. not worrying about running out of them. I will be using them on my 2nd son and my first time doing cloth diapers in December.
I got the side eye from everyone in my family when I told them I wanted to cloth also, I still stuck with it though. I absolutely love cloth diapering it’s so much easier than what people think about it. I wish I would have been more educated on cloth when I had my first and second I would have had an amazing stash for my second
I love all the super cute patterns! And I love not having to use disposables!
We love that cloth diapers are so much better for the environment and our budget!
I have a graduate certificate in conservation ecology and sustainable development (all one thing just a super long name) and so of course my favorite thing is the lessened environmental impact compared to disposable!
I love cloth diapers because they cause less waste, they come in cute colors and prints, and I like knowing that baby has cozy fabric against their skin instead of chemicals.
Better for baby and my wallet!
I love cloth because of the cute fluff bums. Also the savings, environmental impact, and keeping harmful chemicals off my baby. But mostly cute fluff!
We love cloth diapers too because of the concern of chemicals in disposables. The way disposables absorb pee with that gel like consistency always made me so nervous!
Our reasons for cloth diapering were the same as you and your husband. Two months into using Apple Cheeks, I absolutely love them and knowing they are eco-friendly makes it even better.
I love how cute they are!! 🙂
I love cloth because there are very few reasons not to love it! It’s better for baby’s skin, better for the environment, and better for my wallet. Well, in theory. #buyallthediapers is too real! =D
I use cloth diapers because the are good for the environment, for the ease, and not to have harsh chemicals on my baby’s bum’s. The pretty prints and colors are so much fun 🙂
What an awesome giveaway! Nearly everyone i tell about cloth diapering gives me the same “are you crazy!?” face and it’s always so neat to show off modern cloth diapers – of course especially my ACs!
I love that they keep my son rash free!
We are new to cloth-diapering…. gave Applecheeks a try because of a friend who was head over heals for them and…. we love, Love, LOVE them!!!! ….still working on the color variety~
I love how much money we have saved and how adorable the diapers are!!
Falling in LOVE with Applecheeks!
We love cloth because of the cute prints and that they can be reused for the next little squish 🙂
I love that they are so gentle on babies bum and the adorable patterns and colours don’t hurt either!!
There are so many reasons I love cloth diapers: 1) so Eco feiendly 2) cheaper especially if you have more than 1 kid 3) I find they make pee smell less offensive as opposed to disposables 4) if you use a wool cover its super breathable decreasing rashes!
I love cloth diapers for so many reasons! Good for the environment, good for my kids skin and good for my budget. We have tried many, many bands over the last 7 years and 4 kids (review of every single one on my blog). I have never tried an AppleCheeks though!
I love cloth diapering for so many reasons! I love how cute they are, how they save me money (well, they will once I stop buying all the diapers!), are better for the environment, and better for my son!
I love how much money cloth diapers have saved us!
I love cloth because it saves me money as well as getting such cute patterns on my little babies bum!!!!! I’m on my second kiddo now (first was a boy and now a girl) and she’s been cloth almost from the start!!!
I love my stash! So easy to use, good for the baby, environment and the pocket book. I will talk to anyone that listens about cloth.
I love cloth diapers because I never run out of them or need to run out to buy them. I wish I had known people still use them when I had my first 3 children. All of them had horrible rashes no matter how clean I kept their bums! My 4th child has never had a diaper rash and she’s only been in cloth! Thank you for this awesome giveaway Megan The Doula!
I LOVE Applecheeks! There are really way too many reasons to list. They’re cute, relatively inexpensive, Canadian, cute, no poosplosions, trim, cute, easy to use and did I mention cute?
Love love love applecheeks!
I love (obsessed) cloth! I love that it saves money and the environment. I love washing and stuffing them. It strangely makes me feel good.
They save our money each week on our already strict budget while also keeping my kids rash free.
We use cloth diapers to save money. I’m currently pregnant with number and my diapers are paying for themselves over and over again.
I love cloth diapers. They are the only type of diapers my kids didn’t explode out of!
No chemicals near babies skin and you end up saving money
What I love about cloth diapers is that they are good for the environment, affordable, customizable, adorable, many different options, and they help save you money 🙂 I am really excited to start cloth diapering once my little daughter is born
Oh no, I didn’t realize this giveaway is Canada only…please disregard my entries, sorry!
I love that they help make diapering affordable, and are so adorable!
I love cloth diapers because they don’t give my son rashes, they save money and they are so cute!
I love cloth diapers because when I was diapering my son in sposie he had a rash that would not let up. After exhausting all of my options (doctors appointments, diaper creams, powders, etc.) A friend of mine suggested cloth diapers. I bought a few in desperation and his rash cleared up almost over night. I never looked back. I am almost in my 3rd trimester with a new baby girl and I have never once considered using sposie full time. I would love to have an Applecheeks little bundle! Thank you for the opportunity! 💘 😊
I love cloth diapers. With our first we were kind of clueless about everything but when i found out I was pregnant with baby 2 I knew I wanted to Cloth Diaper and I am loving it! I recently got 2 applecheeks for my stash (had to have lake retro and wicked I am a huge fan of purple and black :p) and they are amazing!! This is an awesome giveaway to offer! 😀
I love cloth diapers because it saves money, and it’s best for the evironment! Thanks!
I love Applecheeks! The community is awesome and lend such great support 🙂 I think the thing I love most about AC’s & cloth diapering in general is never running out ;D
We are getting ready to cloth diaper our first, due in a few weeks. I love that it is affordable (especially since we plan to hand his diapers down to siblings), better for the environment & for his skin, and so cute! We are building our stash & would love to try an Applecheeks.
I LOVE cloth diapers! This is my third baby but my first time cloth diapering. It’s such a relief to never worry about buying new diapers in time, you just wash and presto! No more spending a portion of each pay on disposables. Plus they’re suuuuper cute. I can’t wait for summertime… she’ll never have to wear pants and we can show off our awesome diapers 🙂
I haven’t given cloth a try since my last baby 17 years ago. I look forward to saving money versus disposables, never having to rush to the store when we’re out and supporting small businesses by buying custom fluff.
Love that they are so cute, economical and environmentally conscious!
I love that it saves money & the prints! so cute 🙂
I love cloth diapers because they’re environmentally friendly, they save money, and there’s nothing cuter than a cloth diaper baby bum!
I love how much money they save me!
I love cloth diapers! I could list so many reasons as to why I love cloth diapers: cost (since we are starting with our first, we know we’ll save), they are ecological choice, we don’t have blow outs like we did when we had to use disposals, and most of all they’re so stinkin cute!
It sounds nuts but… I love the way CDs smell. Or more exactly, I really dislike the way disposables smell.
I love the savings, and all the cute colours and prints!
I wanted to use cloth to save money! I also liked the idea that they might encourage early potty training. We’re at 20 months and doing all right on the potty training front!
I love applecheecks cloth diaper for the variety of wonderful color. I love the fact that they have 2 sizes for a better fit!
I just love that they are so darn cute!
I love the community so much. On top if that I love not having to go out and buy diapers and oh my gosh the cuteness!
I love that I save money using cloth diapers . And I absolutely love how cute my little ones look wearing them :}
I have only been cloth diapering (exclusively Applecheeks) for a few weeks but what I’ve experienced so far has been nothing short of amazing. My daughter no longer has poop explosions out of her diaper/up to her shoulders, no rashes, no soggy disposables hanging down to her little knees and they are SO ADORABLE! I’m so excited we decided cloth is best for our little princess. I LOVE APPLECHEEKS!
I like that it is good for he environment and safer for my little one, I LOVE the cost savings and the way they look. Thanks for the chance to win an AppleCheeks; it’s one I’m dying to try before filling out my stash!
Love the colors and the ease of use love my Applecheeks
We cloth diaper to Dave money, the earth and my baby’s bum!!!
We super like our Applecheeks! Thanks!
Awesome that your husband jumped on board right away!
I love how much money they can save families. I also love how unbelievably cute they are!
I love cloth diapers because they are great for my sensitive skinned little guy, they contain poo so well (no poo leaks!), they’re reusable…they’re adorable! You save money and can use them for multiple kiddos…I love cloth!
I love everything. The savings and the environmental factor most of all. But, hey, they’re also cute. 🙂
I love how much money we’ve saved, how adorable fat little baby thighs look in them, and how soft they are on my son’s bum.
I have used cloth yet. I didn’t really know much when I had my first. We are now trying for #2 and have a few friends who cloth and have sold me. I have started buying ac and have a stash going. I’m excited for everything good about cloth diapering.
My main reason sfor loving cloth diapers are the reusability factor, how much less garbage we haul away and how soft and gentle they are on my babies bums.
I love many things about cloth diapers, most importantly the health benefits for baby. Cleaner for the environment and super cute!
I have not tried them yet. My first is due in May and I want to use cloth since I too have fallen down the rabbit hole. I’m going to gather many different brands so I can find one I like.
I love that they are saving our family money and also saving the planet.
Love applecheeks!! Cloth diapering, saving the environment one diaper change at a time.
I love cloth diapers because their environmentally friend and I haven’t had to buy disposables in over a year! 😊 I love my applecheeks ❤️
I love that cloth diapers are economical, helps the environment and of course the cute prints and closed baby Butts!!
I love how my baby’s skin isn’t exposed to the chemicals of disposables!
Cloth is just super convenient! Never running out of diapers is awesome!
My daughter has super sensitive skin and the chemicals in disposables irritate her. I never have blowouts in cloth and they are so darn cute! I love a fluffy bum!
i love MOST everything about CD’s. the economic part is great, the green part is great, i love the colors and prints, i love the fluffy butt…but i dont like rinsing/washing poo 🙁
I thought the same thing about cloth diapers when I was pregnant and first had my son. Then, after taking bag after bag after bag of disposables to the garbage bin in the first days, I did some research into cloth diapers and haven’t looked back! I’d love to win some Applecheeks to start cloth diapering from the start with my next one.
i love getting them in the mail…that
s gotta count right!
I love that CD are good for my wallet, the planet and so cute on my baby’s bum!
My friends told me I wouldn’t stick with it, but they were so wrong. Even my husband tells daddies-to-br how awesome cloth diapering is! And AppleCheeks are the only ones I’ve ever purchased that never leave red marks and never have leaks. 👍🏼
