“Are babies brand loyal?”
You heard right. Are babies brand loyal?
This goes down as one of THE best questions a client has ever asked me. It was a quiet moment at her birth and she looked up and paused before she said it, so I had no clue what she was going to say but I knew it would be important.
I had to laugh, and so did she when she realized how hilarious it sounded when she said it out loud. Does a baby care what brand baby item you buy?
“Not really.” I said. “I mean, they can’t tell the difference between a $1200 stroller and a $300 stroller. But, they can probably tell the difference between a mother struggling with a crappy product that isn’t working and one who is happily using her favorite brand of swaddling blankets, I guess.”
But then I went home and really thought about it. Can a baby really have specific preferences when it comes to the brands their parents are choosing?
They totally can! They just don’t know it.
- An unscented moisturizer that doesn’t cause redness or rash for your sensitive baby’s skin- brand loyal!
- A certain lovey or set of toys that your baby seems to like over every other- brand loyal!
- A diaper that never ever leaks– baby doesn’t know it but if they could choose they’d want this brand every time!
I just imagine a bunch of tiny babies and toddlers cruising around the grocery store or chic baby store with their friends:
“That one? No way. That material is so rough, I can barely sleep!”
“I tried that once and the features were just so basic compared to this one. I’m telling you, it’s the best on the market.”
Does this mean that top of the line is always best or that one brand should suit all your baby needs- NO WAY!
In my experience that’s never true. But, you’ll try things out and you’ll probably see that your baby has preferences for certain brands over others, just like we do.
Have you experienced baby brand loyalty? Tell me about it the comments!
I think babies have mega brand loyalty in the pacifier department!
