I absolutely love spending time with my friends without kids. They are hilarious, they keep me feeling young and we have the best time.
I know, I know. I’ve talked a lot about mom friends. How to meet mom friends, how to take part in online mom dating, and reasons why friends with kids are great.
As a mother of two boys, I can appreciate my friends with kids because they literally are the people that “get it”. They’re on the mom grind, day in and day out, just like me. They know exactly how I felt when my 3 year old took his diaper off this morning and crawled into bed with us. Except he had pooped, and subsequently wiped the remaining poop all over my duvet cover. When this happens, I know exactly who to vent to- my mom friends.
But, guess what? I’m not just a mom so it really helps to have people in my life who don’t yet identify as “mommy”.
Here’s 10 reasons why friends without kids are amazing to have around when you’re married with a couple of kids:
1)It’s easy to plan a night out when you’re the only one who needs a babysitter.
2)They can pick up everyone in their car, and nobody needs to spend 2 hours re-installing carseats.
3)You can spend an entire night talking and never have to listen to anyone else venting about THEIR kids.
4)You are forced to spend a night not talking about YOUR kids (believe me, you need a break from that.)
5)They always know the latest celebrity gossip, new band, and where the coolest new bar is located.
6)Your single friends can tell you all their dating and sex stories and you’ll only be mildly jealous and slightly horrified about how much worse it’s gotten since you had kids.
7)You can get fashion advice from people who aren’t also wearing mom jeans and don’t need shirts to accommodate access to their breasts.
8)When you’re hanging out nobody is checking their phone for updates on how bedtime is going.
9)When you hang out at a bar with them nobody asks you “What are you ladies celebrating tonight?”
10)When you wake up the next day, perhaps hungover and feeling too old for that shit, with Paw Patrol playing in the background and 2 sweet faces looking down at you while you doze on the couch you’ll feel happier than ever to be a mom.
So thanks, friends without kids. This is why I am always urging you “wait a little longer before having kids”… Purely selfish reasons really. But you’ll thank me later.
