newdadThere is nothing like seeing a man hold his new baby for the first time.

Up until that very moment it’s likely that this whole pregnancy and baby thing hadn’t hit him as being completely real. Not feeling every movement, or experiencing every symptom of pregnancy makes it hard for a man to relate to what’s going on. It can be difficult to connect to the idea that the big round belly he’s been rubbing and watching grow for the last 9 months will soon be a real life baby in his arms.

Watching a new dad’s face tremble with raw emotion is a highlight of those first few hours after birth. Even the strongest, manliest men turn into mush-balls when handed their little bundle of hopes and dreams and future all wrapped up in a swaddling blanket.

Some of my favorite photos of my kids as babies are the ones where my husband is holding them for the first time. Instantly transformed from birth partner into father and (surprisingly!) at ease in his new role. I’ve gotta say, it’s pretty sexy.
